Twelve DIYs of Christmas
Day 2: When You Really Love a Book
In addition to the reading that I do for work, each year I read about 40-50 books. I love to read. Many years ago, someone recommended the novel Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. It's a proper romance — pleasing character depth and witty banter, delectably romantic yet wholesome, appropriate plot pacing mingled with nuance and poignancy.
I love this book. In the past decade, I've reread it dozens of times — when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm traveling, when I'm determined to remain on my couch. It's predictable when I need comforting predictability. Somehow, it's wheedled its way into my heart, becoming my go-to feel good novel.
This past year, I spun this appreciation into a small DIY project, which you'll see below.

This past year, I spun this appreciation into a small DIY project, which you'll see below.
To begin, I photocopied snippets from my favorite scenes — their initial meeting (top left) to the ending (bottom right) — capturing an abbreviated version of the very best parts.
I had picked up this frame (which included the "l-o-v-e" letters) at a garage sale for $1. Originally, it was a different color with a different background, and I simply spray painted the letters and frame a classic matte black. Using a small paper cutter, I trimmed the photocopied pages to size, arranged them to fit, and secured them to the background with Mod Podge. After applying another few light coats of Modge Podge to seal, I attached the letters again.

The result is a cute, small tribute to my favorite book. Because when you really love a book, what better way to express it?
