Twelve DIYs of Christmas
Day 3: Fresh Finish for a Faded Slat Table
I found this table at a garage sale for $3. While its appearance was rough, the table was structurally sound and a perfect size. I also liked the individual slats. It simply needed a little love. To offer some new life, instead of staining or painting it outright I applied a light paint wash which I applied with both a brush and an old cloth. The process was drippy, but satisfying.
The paint wash offered semi-opaque coverage that made the table appear much fresher, while still keeping the wood grain visible. And since I used paint that I already had on hand, this project had no additional costs. Not bad for a $3 garage sale find!
The table now sits in the corner of my front porch between two chairs. In warmer months, I sit here and read, using the table to hold a drink or a stack of magazines. This winter, I added a festive swag for some Christmas cheer.

Even a simple project, like this slatted table upgrade, can remind us that DIYs don't need to be complicated to be helpful. Sometimes, a simple refresh is all you need.
May your DIYs be merry and bright!
