Twelve DIYs of Christmas
Day 2: Doily Snowflake Wall Art
There's debate on what's an acceptable threshold to start decorating for Christmas. I habitually wait until Thanksgiving has passed, like an official changing of the guard from one holiday to another. This year I was itching to start earlier, but I got vetoed by various family members. Hmmph.
At any rate, now that it's December, decorating for Christmas is perfectly acceptable. If you're looking for a simple and beautiful DIY craft, here's one idea: doily snowflake wall art.
At any rate, now that it's December, decorating for Christmas is perfectly acceptable. If you're looking for a simple and beautiful DIY craft, here's one idea: doily snowflake wall art.
To start, I bought an inexpensive chalkboard at Goodwill because I liked its wooden trim. I protected the trim with painters tape, then painted the background white. (You could use any inexpensive piece of artwork for this, or even a plain canvas.)
Once the background was prepped, I used Mod Podge to adhere several doilies in a randomized pattern, adding a final coat of white paint once the doilies had dried to unify the piece.
The end result is beautiful, subtle, and festive -- plus, it could remain displayed for the remainder of the winter, even after other more traditional Christmas decorations are put away.
May your DIYs be merry and bright!
