Unique End Table Upgrade

Twelve DIYs of Christmas
Day 8: Unique End Table Upgrade

At some point during the universally intolerable years of middle school, I remember hearing this less-than-encouraging chant, which I'm sure was recited in taunts launched from plenty of hallways and school bus backseats:

U - G - L - Y
You don't need no alibi.
You ugly. Yeah, yeah. You ugly.

Now, there's a distinct limit to the rhetorical prowess of tweens, but oddly, this little ditty had enough staying power that I found myself reciting it in my head when I first laid eyes on this end table:

Poor little ugly thing. You ugly. Yeah, yeah, you ugly.

But if you've learned anything from these Twelve DIYs of Christmas, it's this: ugly things don't need to stay ugly. This end table was actually quite interesting: neat lines! a cute drawer! It simply needed fresh paint and new hardware.

Once again, I used Sherwin William's Iron Ore. I've used this in multiple pieces of furniture around my house. In small doses, repeating a color in multiple places will keep your house cohesive without being too repetitive.

When the paint had dried and I added hardware from Hobby Lobby, the end table had a significant glow-up.

I stationed the table at the bottom of a stairway, adding a large mirror (also found at a garage sale, and also painted in Iron Ore) above it. That repetition of color, even with the small area rug at the base of the steps, unifies the space.

U - G - L - Y? Not anymore. Yeah yeah, not ugly!

May your DIYs be merry and bright
